Meridian Police is investigating a stabbing that occurred early Sunday morning, which left one man in the hospital and another with a wounded arm. Police responded to the 1200 block of east 4th Street around 2:30 a.m. regarding a fight involving a knife. When they arrived, they found a male subject that had been stabbed in the abdomen and arm. He also had been hit with a baseball bat, officials say. Authorities say the incident appears to have started Friday night when one of the victims became irate over a girlfriend and another man. The victim started a fight with the other man, who then left the area. The man returned with several other people early Sunday morning to retaliate, officials say. When they entered the apartment complex, one of the victims attempted to stop them and threatened to call the police. He was then hit with the baseball bat by one of the suspects and stabbed by another. The second victim came outside to stop the attack and was stabbed in the arm. Both suspects and all of the other subjects with them fled from the area. Officers later located a second victim that had fled the scene prior to their arrival. The first victim was transported to St. Alphonsus Hospital where he under went surgery for his wounds. He is in serious but stable condition. The second victim was treated for his wound to his arm and released.
