A BRAVE teenager subjected to the latest random attack was able to fight the thugs off single-handedly because he was an amateur boxer. The attack on the 15-year-old was the second to happen in the same Dublin neighbourhood in the space of a week. He suffered injuries to his face and arms but was able to fend them off thanks to his boxing skills. The 15-year-old student was badly beaten when he was set upon by a gang of thugs in an unprovoked attack in a Glasnevin park. The boy was left with a black eye, bruises and an injured wrist in the broad-daylight assault. The attack came less than a week after charity worker Philip Walsh (19) suffered serious facial and dental injuries in a horrific beating in the same respectable area. A local councillor has deplored the "crisis" in violent crime and said those responsible needed to be sent away to "boot camp". The 15-year-old victim of the assault comes from Phibsboro and was walking through Albert College Park next to Dublin City University when he was attacked. It is understood the secondary-school student was punched repeatedly in the face and badly injured before his attackers left the scene. The incident happened at what is a busy public park on the Ballymun Road. It is popular with families and the hundreds of foreign students who are living at and around DCU during the summer months. Albert College Park is just minutes away from Glasnevin Avenue, where last week's attack on Philip and his two friends took place. Suffered Philip suffered horrific injuries to his face and mouth when a gang of attackers smashed him in the face with a broken beer bottle before stamping on his head and face as he lay on the ground. His two friends also suffered injuries to the head and face in the unprovoked attack. Local councillor Bill Tormey (FG) said he was "absolutely shocked" by the violence. I completely and utterly deplore what is going on here and how much of it is going on", he said. "It has reached some sort of crisis point where these thugs need to be sent away to a bootcamp. "It doesn't matter who the people involved are, whether they are from disadvantaged families or if daddy is the bank manager." Gardai are still investigating the assault on Philip Walsh and his friends.
