COLUMBUS, Neb. (AP) - Columbus Police Chief William Gumm wants the city's Hispanic community to prevent more gang violence.

Last week, five people were wounded in a drive-by shooting in a mobile home park. Gumm says the incident was a confrontation between Mexican street gangs.

Gumm is looking to the Hispanic Advisory Committee to curb gang activity, recruitment and affiliation. He says the police department can only do so much within the law, and it will take someone in the Hispanic community to be a leader and spearhead an attitude change about gangs.

The committee is looking to host a meeting in September to inform parents regarding what to look for what and what resources they can use if they suspect their child is involved in gangs or illegal activity.
