St. Charles man convicted of beating 3 in 2005 home invasion

A St. Charles man was convicted of home invasion Tuesday for his role in a 2005 beating incident.

James C. Szczesny, 25, of the 1200 block of South 10th Street faces a minimum 6-year prison sentence for beating three people in an apartment on Aug. 25, 2005. A Kane County jury found Szczesny guilty after deliberating seven hours.

According to testimony, Szczesny and a friend went to the apartment on North 15th Street because they heard one of the residents had made disparaging statements about Szczesny's brother, who had recently died of a drug overdose, said Kane County Assistant State's Atty. Bill Engerman.

After the beatings, Szczesny and the friend were driven from the scene by a woman, who has not been charged, officials said.
