A thick pool of dried blood coats the sidewalk and the stench of stale urine clings to the air. This was not the welcome Vince Rovere had planned for patrons of his new Wharf Street restaurant Tasty. He hopes he and his business partner have not thrown $250,000 down the drain. "I'm really concerned about the effect the binge-drink culture of Wharf Street could have on our business," Mr Rovere said. "This strip should be for tourists and a lot of money is being invested here. I'll be damned if drunk, violent louts ruin it." Mr Rovere says cheap alcohol sold at some Maryborough hotels encourages excessive drinking and often results in street violence.
